MODEified II

Welcome to the MODEified II information page.
The project got underway officially on 15 August 95, and the first tapes were mailed out in early January, 1996.

The Story

The popularity of the original MODEified tape demanded another compilation, and I again rose to the challenge, collecting submissions from BONG members around the world, selecting the songs to be included on the tape, duplicating the over 200 copies of the tape that were ordered, and mailing them around the world.

Again, it was a non-profit project... there was no requirement that the tapes be paid for, but voluntary contributions to offset the expenses of blank tapes, color printing (for the covers), and postage were requested, with $5.00 USD per tape being the recommended amount. Most people paid this amount, and several people (including myself) paid more than their fair share, making it possible for others who couldn't afford the tapes to still receive a copy.

Songs considered for the tape included tracks that were submitted but not used for the first MODEified tape, as well as a large number of new submissions from people who heard how well the first tape turned out and decided to contribute songs for the second one. There are enough songs left over (that were submitted but weren't included in either of the first two tapes) to make a third tape! It was amazing! After the release, the influx of new submissions for M3 eventually kept me from using more than a handful of the extra M1 and M2 submissions. I digress, Check out the track listing for M2 below!

The Contributors and Liner Notes

Side A

Bryan McPhail

- back from Scotland, Bryan brings in the compilation with a his powerful version of Memphisto. Bryan used his Yamaha PSR-300 and PSS-680 keyboards, Semi-acoustic guitar, echo and distortion effects of the sound generation, 1-meg Atari ST w/ Cubase v2.0 for the sequencing, and recorded directly to a hi-fi tape recorder. Well done!

Rafi Kharman

- Rafi comes to us from Canada and he mixed the World in my Eyes (8-bit Remix): He is a firm believer that the 8-bit quality adds character! Thanks!

Fletch Lives

- FL is Kevin Ross (vocals & bass guitar), Johnathan Marshall (Devotionalized guitar tracks, backup vocals, drums). These guys cranked out the Enjoy the Silence (Lets F**king Hear You Mix). In Waco, TX, these guys are working on an entire album of vocers, and would love some input, so be sure to let them know what you think!

Khoa Ho (Littlegore)

- Back for more piano wizardry, Khoa is from Houston, TX, but is in Chigago for his University studies. I am sure we haven't hear the end of his legacy...... Thanks for the I Want You Now jem!

Rob Augino and Bryan Mcphail

- This song was originally submitted for the original MODEified, but didn't get on. In Your Room is one of my absolute favorite songs from DM, and while messing around with my mediocre equipment... I added vocals to the instrumental, and Viola! A very unexpected cross country and time addition to MII. Thanks Bryan!

Rick Grossenbacher

- of The Coastal Girls fame, resurfaces from MI with an awesome Strangelove Remix! ¡Bien hecho!

Daniel "Kylis" Aeschliman

- joined by

SYZYGY

for this cross country effort! Great job guys, distance doesn't mean a thing! Together SYZYGY taking care of the production of Remotivate Me (Set Me Free) and Kylis on vocals, these guys cranked out a great tune!

Johan Östberg

- Straight out of Sweden, Johan coes to us very quietly through his Love in Itself (Whisper Mix) interpretation! Molto Bene!

Ernest Millan

- back from CA, Ernest cranks out another acoustic creation! Many thanks for the Once Caress (Acoustic) interpretation!

Ken Gillespie

- Ken comes to us from Australia with his true to the original Halo cover. Ken also has his own three song cover album out, appropriately titled "Cover to Cover". Check it out!

DNR

- DNR was joined in this cross country venture by K.J. Adan. DNR cranked out the Policy of Truth (Generic Mix)! Far from generic, this song wraps up SIDE A bueautifully!

Side B

Stephen Lancaster

- A long time DM fan from Aberdeen, Scotland. This is the first solo 'cover' project that he's ever done, and all of his past projects, it was certainly the most enjoyable! He put the Fly on the Windscreen (Instr) track together using a Korg M1, Casio FZ10M sampler and an Alesis Midiverb IIfx module. Muito bern!

Deemed Epoch

- out of Basel, Switzerland, comes the awesome Nothing (Cool Jazzy Mix). Nothing is one of my fav's and this interpretation tops the list! All vocals, instruments and programming were done by Patrick Merz. Technical support graciously given by Dirk Noy (Unicorn Sound Systems). Pat got into DM when he accidentally scratched his friends Speak and Spell album and he had to buy it off him! The rest was history!

The Wright Condition

- Courtney Preston Wright of good ol' NC has blessed us with her heavenly Condemnation (Acoustic Soprano Serenade). Joined by guitarist J.A., these two certainly turned out an impressive and passionate interpretation. Thanks!

Mike Benning

- the encouraging response to Mike's cover of Fools from the original MODEified let him to cover the classic Lie to Me. For this track, Mike employs the anxious, hard-driving mood that characterizes his current style. Look for more of his work with his new group Synoptic, whose debut EP Overload will be available in early 1996! Be sure to contact him!

Quartz Insomnia

- QI is Seth Christensen and CY Kennedy from Salem, OR. Please note, these guys are from OR, not OK... as it was falsely stated on the original MODEified's cover:) My apologies, and thanks for the Get Right with Me cover!

John Brady Bogdan

- from Salt Lake City, Utah, John comes at us full throttle with his hard-edged Never Let Me Down Again cover! This cong contains a sample from Prong's Prove You Wrong, dialogue from DM's Strange video, and the guitars were done by his friend

Wayne Moss

. John has sent me a full tape of his original material, Excellent stuff! Contact him and check it out!

Michael Jeffries

- Michael did his Monument cover using his computer and Sound Blaster AWE32 sound card. His thanks go to those closest to him; his wife Carrie and baby son Andrew. :'-)

Teknique

- is an original band out of San Diego, CA. The band is composed of Jeff Beringer (lead vocals), Aaron Young (keyboards), and Harold (their Mac). Their version of New Dress was taken from a live show in '91.

Duane Ludwig

- he finally found enough time to compose his Just Can't Get Enough (Variations) cover. Glad you found the time!

Loveless

- From Sweden, Loveless is

Mikael Askernäs

and

Jan-Erik Saarinen

. It took these guys two hours to record their version of Any Second Now (after Jan-Erik uttered the words "Hmm.. I wonder what ASN wouls sound like as a piano piece?"), it took two weeks getting the mixing just right, and just over two months(!) to get the tape to the States! Sigh... Well, it got here the day I was recording the master copy! Talk about cutting it close! Worked out for the best, great harmonies guys!

Distorted

- Björn Hedberg from Sweden is Distorted! Stripped was one of the many hard-edged songs that Björn conjured up! No Boo's here! Great job, and thanks for keeping your pants on! Take care.....Rob

My Thanks And Comments from the liner notes..

MODEified, I think is becoming a tradition! Once again, I would like to thank all of the contributors that submitted for the second installment! The turnout was even better than the original with over four hours of music submitted for the compilation. Through the world of Bong we have managed to house another great collection of technical and natural talents. This project had many obstacles to jump befor it truly began to come together, the major hurdle being the inoperation of Bong for sometime. As you can see, there was really nothing stopping us! Following in the footsteps of the original and the in the inspiration of DM: MODEified II was created to give us all a palce to come together and share our interpretations of DM's songs. The song requirements remained the same: there were none! Everyone was once again invited to join in on the compilation, no matter the talents! Bong members came together across countries in joint efforts to combine there diversities. Guitars and keyboards were dusted and played again to create this tribute collection. I hope everyone out there will enjoy listening to this tape as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. Some of you have asked me if I am a glutton for punishment, for I continue to volunteer myself for the project production. The truth is that I love getting the submissions and making sure that the project gets out there! I see the light of MODEified III already beginning to shine, and we'll cross that bridge soon into the new year! My enormous thanks to everyone out there who helped pull through with the music, graphics, and fresh ideas. Thanks to Brian for reviving Bong and keeping it going for us!

Until next time everyone....

Take care and Peace.
Rob Augino

(As all the MODEified tapes, this edition was compiled and created totally for fun, in a non commercial fashion and is never to be bought or sold!) Thank You.
