Subj: [bong] M5 -Pre-Update info! Date: 10/27/1999 12:17:31 PM US Eastern Standard Time From: NCRobino@aol.com Sender: owner-bong@commline.com Reply-to: NCRobino@aol.com To: bong@commline.com Hey everyone, busy busy busy, thats me in a nutshell....(no this is me in a nutshell, how did I get in this nutshell?) Sorry, eheh... anyway, all is well with M5 so far! I plan on today or in a few days (I am going for a short Kayaking and snorkeling trip to La Paz, Mexico the first week of Nov) doing a major update regarding M5. But, in brief I wanted to let everyone know what was up just in case I don't get another update out before the due dates. Ok, firstly, the dates will be extended. As predicted, and as with every other edition, things happen and people don't get everything completed on time. So, although I have almost enough submissions to fill up a CD, I am hoping for some more key tunes to arrive. This is your cue folks! If you are still thinking of submitting, you still can! Get your act together and record! Have fun! I have gotten some great tunes, but there is room for more still on the CD and I want to fill it completely with tunes before I call it complete. So far though, there are some GREAT songs in. GREAT! Just got a version of Somebody (At Home) ... guess which songs it combines!? Fantastic and nothing like the originals, also a jazz version of Surrender.. just to name a few! Its looking to be a great edition! Not quite sure of the due dates yet, ordering and submitting deadlines will probably be pushed to January, thats my guess as the holidays are a busy time for me and I don't spend much of it at home. In Jan, I will be snowbound to the apt here in Chicago and will have time to get things done properly, not to mention, many submitters still need the time. I'd like to thank EVERYONE who did order and submit on TIME. That was very dependable of you all, and I truly appreciate it. We all know that a MODEified edition takes time, its a collaborative effort and we are scattered all over the world. So, we just have to have patience to make the end result worth it all! I'll update the homepage too soon, I apologize for not having updated much, but there really wasn't much to add these last few weeks approaching the deadline except for letting you know of some submissions, but the surprise of that is pretty cool too... So, if you haven't ordered or a planning on submitting, now is your chance!!! IF you are hoping to submit, drop me a line and let me know just so I can expect your song. Thanks alot!! Those of you who were planning on submitting and I haven't heard from you since we started the project, please let me know if you are still planning on recording. I will follow this message with info on ordering and submitting (both art and songs) for the project. Thanks alot for the collaboration of everyone and the enthusiasm! Don't miss out on M5, you'll be sorry! Order now! Submit now! Take care everyone Rob Ordering: ---------------------------- As always, MODEified is a Non-Profit for FUN only project! So, I will only be asking for $ to cover the cost of the blank CD, the color inserts, and shipping. So, lets do the math: $2.50 - $2.00 -CDR (I can sometimes find them around $2 will buy as I see them) $1.50-Color Inserts (about $.75 per color copy, front and back) $3-Shipping/Envelope/Supplies $1-Miscellaneous Expenses*(see below) $8 Total for M5 on CD. International orders add $3 bucks for the first CD and $1 for each additional. That seems to be the best way to estimate it. So, one CD=$11 two=$20 ( 8+8+3+1) three=$28 -->if ordering more ...just send the $8 for each CD at that point as the extra dollar won't be needed probably. Its touch to estimate a shipping formula for the whole world! *-- Regarding the extra buck. Well, I learned alot from M4 ...the first CD outing. There were about 30+ wasted CDRs! ugh....not only that, but now that these things are getting bigger and I have others helping me...we have to send these boxes of CDs back and forth...and Rafi is in Canada! So, as you can imagine...it costs the project about $40 to send a box of 100 CDRs back and forth to the states via Fed Ex...not to mention sending all submissions to Brat and him sending them back. And random double shippings come up where one CD was blank..etc. The project shouldn't cost anyone any money...but last time it did cost me a few bucks here and there.... I obviously didn't have to file for bankrupcy, but this extra dollar should give us just enough extra for such expenses. Also, regarding personal checks...when I get them I hold them till I have a few..then deposit them. Sometimes I can hold them for weeks...so please make sure the money is in there until it's deposited. Remember, it will get deposited now, and you won't get the order till the project is completed! Thanks for your understanding and if you have any questions...PLEASE feel free to ask me! I'd say thats still a pretty good deal folks. I'll do my best again to locate inexpensive packing materials. I used bubble rap and manilla envelopes last time and nobody in all the replies of the CD arriving, nobody had a horror story about the condition upon arrival, so I think that will be the method for domestic shipping again, international gets recycled padded envelopes again... I will, as always, be doing all the work for FREE. I make no money, this is not a commercial production...this allows us to have fun and share our musical talents. As always, I do ask that submitters please pay for their own copies and place orders just like anyone else...Especially since the majority of the orders are from submitters anyway. It would be outrageously expensive for me--out of my pocket--to give away CDs to the majority of orderers. For those of you that sent extra $ previously ....unexpected charges and costs continue to always pop up..so it always does help. It is completely voluntary however... and unexpected, but thanks to the kind souls who do:-) ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS: Send your cash, check, or money order in US Dollars ONLY....to: Rob Augino 5441 N. East River Rd. Apt#203 Chicago, IL 60656 Inside your order you must include these things PLEASE: 1.Your EMAIL ADDRESS! 2.A letter stating what and how many of what you are ordering. 3.A shipping label, or a piece of square paper that can be taped onto your package...Put the address you want your CD to go to on the label.(remember ...this may not get shipped for 8 mos to a year, so think ahead..give me a permanent address:-) 4.Your money to cover the costs...I just organize and put a buttload of time into this...I can't pay too:-) That is it, DON'T FORGET ANYTHING....THATS WHY I JUST TYPED THAT CHECKLIST...:-) Orders will be sent out in the order that they were received. So, first orders in get the first CDs...and trust me...they will come out as they are ready, so every CD ahead of you ...will be a day or so wait each. So, hurry or just be patient:-) It took several months to get from the top of the list to the bottom last time. SUBMITTING ----------------------- All submitters: Make your music and send it to me PREFEREBLY on CD, but I'll take a DAT or Cassette too. CD is #1 choice. If you send a DAT, I will need a cassette so that I can listen to the song. Brat has the DAT player for the mastering. If you can only send a tape, email me so we can discuss other options to get the best quality. ****Try to make your songs under 5 minutes!***** Send your Submissions to me at: Rob Augino 5441 N. East River Rd Apt#203 Chicago, IL 60656 Be sure to include your BIO info for the sleeve! And don't forget your order too. Art ------------ I will once again need artwork for the cover...and the reverse insert. So, we need 2 graphics at least for this project. Submit your graphics to ME! Just mail them to me in any form...example...JPG, GIF, BMP...etc. I will *eventually* put an M5 Homepage together and take care of putting all the updates there...as well as the graphics for the cover. Email them to ME at NCRobino@aol.com... If you must, mail your art to me at home and I'll scan it. Thats a pain though, so prefered that you send it via email. ART RESTRICTIONS: Don't bite off DM's ideas!! Leave their album artwork on their albums, we want our own original creation. Now, you can use their inspiration....as we did with the M3 and M4 cover...but don't use their images...ie. pics of the band, etc. Fonts and imagines are fine to use. Due Dates: --------------------- Submissions Due By: January 2000 TBA Orders are Due By: January 2000 TBA I would like to wait till school starts back up to start announcing due dates....So expect a wait thru august to get this info. That just means, those of you working on submissions have some extra time... so get to work so there is no last minute scurrying around (who am I kidding, that happens no matter what!) The best part of the project is its creation and anticipation! Ok, I think that is it everyone. Mail me with any questions..! And please check out the M1-4 Pages for any questions regarding MODEified the Project and early editions. Sergio is supposedly still working on getting all the MP3 files back up on the web. Has copies of all the songs, M4 too, to upload...but its time consuming. I am hoping for an update from him soon. If you have any questions regarding my reliablity during the production of an edition, ask any bongster... I keep you posted and do the work as fast as my schedule allows. On downtime, I don't spend but a day every few months copying for folks...so it has and always will take a long time to get something from me via mail when I am not doing a project. If you don't know what the heck all this is about, check out the webpages for info on what this will be, what to expect, and what we did so far.... http://www.depeche.mode.net/MODEified Thanks for all the support! Take care Rob Augino Well, I think that about covers it.
